Massage Techniques – 3 Methods That Will Take Your Stress Away

February 19th, 2010

This article discusses various massage techniques and 3 methods that will remove your stress. Any one of the options below will help melt away the stress and tension you might be feeling.

1. Swedish Massage: Effleurage, friction, petrissage, tapottement, and vibration make up Swedish massage techniques. Effleurage is long sweeping strokes given from either the padded parts of your fingertips or the palm of your hand.

The second technique, friction can help relax the muscles and the petrissage technique involves squeezing and kneading the muscles of the body. Tapottement is rhythmic hitting or chopping that can help energize areas of the body and vibration helps shake up certain areas of the body and loosen muscles.

2. Deep Tissue: Deep tissue massage techniques are slow and focused and are designed to relieve muscle tension and alleviate inflammation which can help joint pain. It uses some of the same techniques as Swedish massage, but with some variations that work each muscle more thoroughly; it can be fairly intense.

Deep tissue massage shouldn’t hurt, but it can be a little uncomfortable in the beginning. About a day after the massage you will start to notice the benefits of this therapeutic massage technique.

3. Hot Stone: A much calmer and more relaxing technique is a hot stone massage. Unlike deep tissue massage which is designed to focus on curing a problem, hot stone massage techniques focus completely on relaxation and the enjoyment of the person receiving the massage.

After starting with some traditional Swedish massage techniques, the masseuse will then lay stones upon a person’s back and extremities. The hot stones help release tension from muscles and will quickly help a person feel relaxed and invigorated.

In this article we looked at massage techniques and 3 methods that will take your stress away. Swedish massage techniques are the most common, but deep tissue and hot stone massages can also provide excellent benefits if you are experiencing muscle tension and/or pain.

Facial Massage Techniques – 3 Great Reasons to Massage the Face

January 27th, 2010

In this article we will look at the benefits of some facial massage techniques. The 3 reasons discussed below will not only enhance your appearance and reduce your stress, but they will also help the rest of your body function better.

1. Prevent Blemishes and Unclog Pores: Since first impressions are so important, the face is usually something people spend a lot of time on, and yet it is usually the last place on your body that gets treated with respect and love. Because it is the first thing people usually see, most people want their face to look its best, which for women usually means makeup and product used on a regular basis. This can take its toll on your skin, and trying to look beautiful can often have opposite results.

A facial massage will undo some of the damage mentioned above and will finally give your face the treatment it needs and deserves. Doing this will help you achieve the ultimate look you have been after, and usually in a less intrusive manner. Facial massage techniques help unclog pores and prevent blemishes so in the end you won’t have as many “imperfections” to try and cover up anyway.

2. Prevent Wrinkles and Strengthen Facial Muscles: People don’t often realize that their face has mucles just like the rest of the body, that is until these muscles start to fail them. When you massage the chin and neck, you can stregnthen the faciel muscles and even prevent a double chin, the face can easily be damaged by environmental and emotional factors, it is time to treat it kindly and reap the benefits a short facial massage can do.

By pampering yourself with a facial massage every now and then, you will see fewer wrinkles and look younger too. This type of massage shouldn’t last for more than 20 minutes; you don’t want to stretch or lengthen the facial muscles.

3. Increase Circulation and Reduce Impurities: By using soft, circular and upwards motions, you will be able to increase circulation and reduce impurities. As a result, your appearance will benefit as well as other parts of your body.

The ears in particular are pressure points that can stimulate the rest of your body when massaged and pulled back. Do this technique last to finish your facial massage.

This article discussed facial massage techniques and 3 good reasons why you should consider getting a facial massage. Not only will it unclog pores and prevent blemishes, a facial massage will help prevent wrinkles as well as strengthen facial muscles, increase circulation and reduce impurities. If the massage is done correctly, and is no longer than 20 minutes long, either given to yourself or by someone else, it can help you look younger, feel younger and age gradually with style.

Occupational And Physical Therapy Travel Jobs Abound

August 6th, 2009

There are many jobs that people might call their dream job, but for an occupational or a physical therapist, it just may be the ability to see the country and get paid to do so. In these fields of employment, there is a demand for short term employment. That demand is not very appealing to anyone looking to stay put at home. No one wants to become unemployed every 13 weeks or so.

The lack of local applicants for these jobs has spawned a new industry of travel therapy. There are travel therapy jobs in other therapy related fields as well, but for this article we only discuss physical and occupational travel therapy. The facts related to these two fields should also apply to other therapy related fields as well. We would suggest that you research your particular therapy career if you are interested in a travel therapy job.

The typical term of these traveling assignments for occupational and physical therapist will generally last for around 13 weeks. Each therapist is different and may choose to move straight from one assignment to another while others will prefer some time off between each assignment.

The salary for a traveling therapist is very competitive to the salary of a traditional office therapist. However, once you consider the chance to travel to locations that you choose (from a list), have your housing compensated, meals paid for, and insurance benefits, the concept of becoming a travel therapist becomes more inviting.

This job is not the dream job for everybody. If you prefer to stay at home over traveling, then this job may not be for you. If you have anything, such as church assignments, local government responsibilities, family concerns, or anything else that ties you down to your location, then again this may not be for you. If you are a therapist and none of these limitations apply to you and you love to travel, then consider the industry of travel therapy.

Buying A Massage Chair For Comfort

June 27th, 2009

When it is time to buy a massage chair, and you know nothing else these are the two things you must remember. Firstly, comfort is the most important thing to look out for in a massage chair. The second thing is that the massage functions are really what separate different chairs. Those two are all you need to effectively go out and tests drive some chairs.

Pay close attention to the massage functions. The most basic functions are rolling, kneading, and tapping or percussions. The rollers, nodes, and air bags should feel like a person’s hands, not like mechanical devices. Also, test different intensities and speeds and take note of what you like or dislike.

More expensive chairs will offer a wider range of adjustable intensities and speeds but all chairs should offer at least some adjustments. One way most basic chairs will allow you to adjust intensities is by adding or removing the cushions.

The comfort of the chair is determined by the size and density of the chair. Since neither of these are adjustable features, it is important to find a chair that properly fits your body and feels good to sit in for long periods of time. For this reason it is a good idea to consider a chair with that offers a lot of removable cushions, which means more flexibility for the user.

Comfort of the massage itself is about fitting the rollers to the size of the user. Some chairs start the back massage high in the backrest and rolls downward. For some people the starting position of the roller is too high and needs to be adjusted to start at a lower position. Some high end chairs will recognize the user’s height and automatically adjust accordingly. Even fancier featured chairs can even sense the location of the user’s spine.

Basic chairs don’t have air bags, but many other chairs do. By inflating and deflating the chair can massage other areas of the body such as the arms, hips, and legs. Many chairs will let you select a sequence and save your favorite for the next session.

If you are buying a chair that will be shared by your family, or anyone else on a regular basis it is important to spend a little more and get decent amount of adjustable settings. That way everyone will be comfortable with the same chair.

Since it a big chair, and you can find one that is of extreme comfort to you it makes sense that many people use the chair to double up as lounge chairs when not in use. It is great to relax in and something to look forward to at the end of the day.
